Mother of the Right Guidance:

Amenah bent Wahb [AAH]

Her Name and Relations [AAH]:

She is Amenah bent Wahb ibn Abd-Manaf ibn Zahra ibn Kelab ibn Murra ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib ibn Fehr. Fehr are Quraish, and Zahra is the full brother of Qusayy ibn Kelab, the great grandfather of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH]. Qusayy had three sons: Abdel-Dar, abd-Manaf, and Abdel-Ozza. Abd-Manaf begot Abd-Shams, Nawfal, Hashim, al-Muttalib, and Khowaylid. Hashim begot Abdel-Muttalib who begot Abdullah the father of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH]. The father of her father is Abd-Manaf ibn Zahra whose name is always related to the name of his cousin Abd-Manaf ibn Qusayy, so they say the two Manaf's out of honoring and respect. The relations of Amenah from her mother are not any less in rootage and originality. She is the daughter of Barrah bent Abdel-Ozza ibn Osman ibn Abdel-Dar ibn Qusayy ibn Kelab. The mother of her mother is Om-Habib bent Asad ibn Abdel-Ozza ibn Qusayy, and the mother of Om-Habib is Barrah bent Owf ibn Ubaid ibn Uwayg ibn Adeyy ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib ibn Fehr, a great dynasty that grew Amenah to have her great destiny. In her historical motherhood great inheritance that she gave to her son, like the honor of the two Manaf's: Abd Manaf ibn Zahra ibn Kelab and Abd-Manaf ibn Qusayy ibn Kelab. She made him [PPBUH] say, in the Hadith from ibn Abbas (Allah kept moving me from good spines to pure wombs; purified and refined. No branching in two unless I am in the best of them). Ibn Hesham said: the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] is the most honorable in ancestry of the all Adam's offspring, and the best of them in relations, both from his father and his mother.

This is the ancestry of the best woman honored with carrying the best human and the master of the creatures; Muhammad ibn Abdullah [PPBUH]. in the Sahih Hadith from Wathelata ibn al-Asqaa [AAH]: the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said (Allah chose Kenanah from the sons of Ismail, chose Quraish from Kenanah, chose Bany Hashim from Quraish, and chose me from Bany Hashim).

She grew up in a family of great ancestry, which was known for politeness, honor, acumen, eloquence, smartness, and fluency. She is the best woman in Quraish in rank and ancestry. She was known as the (flower of Quraish), as she is the daughter of Bany Zahra. She was hidden from the eyes of the people to the extent that no narrator could describe her face or figure. So Amenah had to have great esteem and high relations and ancestry. What increased her esteem was her being raised in the purest part of the land; honorable Mecca, and around the sacred house.

The marriage of Amenah and Abdullah:

Abdel-Muttalib took his son Abdullah, after he was saved from the slaughtering with a great sacrifice, and left. He took him to Wahb ibn Abd-Manaf ibn Zahra who was at that time the master of Bany Zahra in ancestry and honor. He married him to Wahb's daughter Amenah. The wedding took three days and three nights. At that time Abdullah stayed with his bride in the house of her father as was the customs of the people then. Then she went to the house of her husband on the forth day.

The Good Tiding:

Sd. Amenah [AAH] slept and  saw in her dream as if a beam of light was shining out of her to light up the world around her, until she saw Basra of the land of Sham. She heard a caller shouting at her: You are pregnant with the master of this nation.

The death of Abdullah:

A few days later, not determined by the narrators but most of them said that it was ten days, Abdullah left his bride to go with the trade caravan from Quraish traveling to Gaza and Sham. A month until Amenah felt the first sign of pregnancy. It was a light gentle feeling as if the baby has made pain from the separation from her husband Abdullah, the flower of the youth of Mecca, easier. The second month passed with Abdullah still away. The beloved husband died among his uncles from Bany an-Naggar, and was buried there. The bride became a widow and lived sad alone until Bany Hashim and Bany Zahra fear for her to die from sadness and pain. Until Allah granted her tranquility and her mind was occupied by her carried son whom she saw in her sleep as the master of this nation.

The Elephant year and the Birth of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH]:

Then came the Elephant year, and Amenah heard about Abraha and his army coming to destroy Ka'ba. Abdel-Muttalib came to her and asked her to get ready to go out of Mecca with the rest of Quraish. It was hard for her to give birth to her son away from the sacred town, in a house other than his father's. But she believed that Allah will defend his house and will not let that tyrant have access to the sacred town. The day passed with any messenger from Abdel-Muttalib to take her away from Mecca, until the sun was down. Then the good tiding came with the defeat of Abraha and Quraish's saving. The visions came back to Amenah. In a full moon night of Rabie al-Awwal, she heard a caller again calling on her that she is about to give birth to the master of this nation. The caller told her to say, when she gives birth to him "I ask the Only-One to protect him from the evil of every envious", then to name him "Muhammad". A few days after the Elephant day, when Amenah gave birth in the house of Abo-Talib in the pass of Bany Hashim. Ibn Saad narrated from many ways that Sd. Amenah [AAH] said "I saw as if a shooting star came out of me until it lighted the palaces of Sham".

Imam Bayhaqy [AAH] narrated from Hassan ibn Thabit that he said: while I was seven or eight years old and I understood what I heard, there was a Jew shout to the Jews. They gathered and said: What is the matter with you? He said: the star of Ahmed, that he is to be born with, has shown up tonight.

Al-Hakim [AAH] narrated from the mother of believers Sd. Aisha [AAH] said: There was a Jew who lived in Medina until the day of birth of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH]. He said: O, Quraish people, did you have a born child today? They said: We do not know. He said look around, as today the prophet of this nation was born. Between his shoulders there is a birth mark with some hair like the mane of the horse. They asked and were told that a boy was born to Abdullah ibn Abdel-Muttalib. So they went with the Jew to his mother and said: show us your son. She took him out to them. They uncovered his back and the Jew saw the mark and fell down unconscious. When he woke up, they said: What is the matter with you? He said: the prophecy is lost from the sons of Israel. He is going to give you influence from the east to the west.

And so:

[the right Guidance was born, so creatures are lighted

and the mouth of the time is smiling and praising]

[the spirit and the angels are around him

giving good tidings for the religion and the worldly life, with him]

[the throne is proud and the barn is glowing

and so does the far end and the unique pearl]

Imam Fakhreddin said:

[the birth of the Light and Joy has showed up

The remover of the grief, we take him as agent] 20/2

On Monday the 12th of Rabie al-Awwal in the Gregorian year 571, Sd. Amenah bent Wahb, the wife of Abdullah ibn Abdel-Muttalib, gave birth to a beautiful boy with a shiny face. Thwayba al-Aslamiya the maid of Abo-Lahab, the uncle of the Prophet [PPBUH], ran out to her master with her face filled with joy. As soon as she got to him, she whispered to him with the good tiding. His face exulted and said to her with excessive joy: You are freed. Go! He gave her freedom. Then Abdel-Muttalib hurried to the house of his son Abdullah and came out carrying the new born and entered Ka'ba with him joyfully, carrying in his hands the grace of the world. He kept holding him to his chest, kissing him so kindly, thanking Allah and asking him. Allah inspired him to name him Muhammad.

Imam Fakhreddin said:

[He is a mercy, and mothers took him as role model

A Merciful Lord his Lord named him] 19/12

Now the Joy of Amenah has completed. No longer she felt lonely as she felt before. People rejoiced and the grandfather, Abdel-Muttalib was happy with his grandson. He thanked the Lord for His great grace, and he said:

[Thanks to Allah who gave me

this absolutely pure good boy]

[He is master of boys while in the cradle

I ask You to protect him from the evil of hating ones]

[and from disturbed unleashed envious ones]

He named him "Muhammad", and when he was asked about it, he said to be praised on earth and in heaven. Although this have been used before, but from that time people started to like it and name their children with it.

The Nursing Baby:

The mother [AAH] nursed her child until the nurses come from the desert around them, but sadness came back to her when her milk dried out few days later. He [PPBUH] was given to Thowayba to nurse him, as she was the first nurse to nurse the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], as in the history of ay-Tabary. He said that Thowayba was the first to nurse the messenger of Allah with the milk of her son Masrouh, days before Halima came. Thowayba had nursed Hamza ibn Abdel-Muttalib before him, and Abo-Salma ibn Abdel-Asad al-Makhzumy. Thowayba is the servant of Abo-Lahab, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH].

Halima bent Abo-Zu'yb as-Saadi came seeking Muhammad. The lonely mother waited for the return of her son, until Halima brought him back while he was two years old. But it was as if he was four years old because of what he showed of bloom, maturity, and health. Halima kept telling Amenah about the extremely hot air of Mecca until Amenah's heart pulsating with love and preferring enforced her to continue bearing and being patient, and the nursing boy when back to the pastures of Bany Saad with Sd. Halima.

A few months later, Halima brought him back showing worries. Sd. Amenah asked her, after she heard the story of the two angels who opened the chest of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH]: Were you afraid of evil for him? S.d Halima answered: Yes. Sd. Amenah said: No. By Allah, evil has no way with him. My son has an esteem, would you like to hear about it? Sd. Halima said: Yes. So Halima told her about what she heard and saw during her pregnancy, then she said: By Allah, I never saw any pregnancy lighter or easier than his. When I gave birth too him, he fell with his hands to the ground and his hear raised to the sky. So let him be and go rightly guided. The good child went back and his light removed the shadows of sorrow that clouded the lonely world of his mother and her early being widow.

The biography book admits her great effect at that stage of the age of Islam's Prophet. Sheikh ibn Ishaq said: the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] was with his mother in the grace and protection of Allah. Allah was raising him with good grace. The great care of Amenah paid off, and Muhammad [PPBUH] showed the signs of early maturity. She saw in him, while he was six, the image of the great man she was promised in her visions.

The End Journey:

The great mother told her son about a journey they would take to visit Yathrib and the grave of the beloved Abdullah. The son was delighted to go with his mother and get to know his uncles who lived in Yathrib. The climate was summer and the sun was heating the rocks and melting the sand. The procession reached Yathrib. Sd. Amenah stayed there with her son [PPBUH] for a month. Then the trip back started, the trip that will always be remembered by the son of Abdullah [PPBUH]. during this trip back, Sd. Amenah got sick and felt that her time is inevitable. She was so sad for her orphan son that she cried, and he kept drying her tears with his little hands. It was not long before Amenah died in al-Abwaa between Mecca and Medina, while she was thirty years old. Muhammad [PPBUH] was three months after six. Her soul went up to her creator and left a pain in her son [PPBUH] self that was never forgotten. That was in the year 576PC, 34 years before the message of the Prophet [PPBUH].

An Everlasting Memory:

Abdullah ibn Mas'oud [AAH] narrated that the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] went out with them one day until they came to the graves, then he told them to sit and he went into the grave yard until he reached a specific grave. He [PPBUH] sat to that grave and talked to it with low voice for long. Then his voice went up crying and we cried for his crying. Then he [PPBUH] came to us. Omar ibn al-Khattab [AAH] went to him and said: what made you cry, o, Messenger of Allah? It frightened us and made us all cry? He took the hand of Omar, and then he nodded to us, so we came to him. Then he said (Were you frightened by my cry?) We said: Yes, o, Messenger of Allah. He repeated that twice or three times. Then he said (The grave, you saw me talking to, is the grave of my mother, Amenah bent Wahb. I asked the permission of my Lord to visit her and He permitted me). Muslim and Abo-Dawoud.

Ibn Saad also narrated in his Tabaqat that the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], when he passed by al-Abwaa in the Umra of al-Hudaybeya, he said (Allah permitted Muhammad to visit the grave of his mother). So he came to it and fixed it and cried by it, and Muslims cried for his cry. He was asked about that and he said (Her mercy reached me so I cried) Tabaqat Kobra and Nehayat al-Erb. Who would be good to his mother if not the Prophet [PPBUH], and what kind of a mother is the mother of this great one.

So peace be to Amenah the mistress of the mothers, the mother of the Gifted Mercy, the Master of all creatures [PPBUH].
