Lo! Allah is his Lord

The Generous, the Granter stopped us before on the great fact that the mastery, glorification, revering, and honoring of him [PPBUH] are necessities that the acceptance of Allah, Almighty, is built on, until it became as much like as the Sunna. I would not be exaggerating if said that it is more like duty or obligation, according to the rules and principles of the people of principles. As the commands in this field that urge for it and forbid the crime of decreasing some of his esteem or hurting him [PPBUH]. These commands strongly indicate that this matter is very serious. This is greatly clarified in the jealousy of the Lord, Glory be to Him, on His Beloved Prophet [PPBUH] in many places in Qur'an. One of those is the verse we talked about in the last article, which is [When the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives, and she then divulged it, and Allah made it known to him, he knew part thereof and did not talk about a part. Then when he told her thereof, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "He told me Who knows and is Well-Acquainted" ¤ If you two repent unto Allah, for your hearts have been inclined, and if aid one another against him then Allah is his Patron, so Gabriel, the righteous believers and angels will be after that the helpers] at-Tahrim 66:3-4. We will try to explore what the people of interpretation said and what our sheikhs granted us of truth and of the Hadith of the Master of all messengers.

First: Trials on the side of the Well-guarded Master:

In the interpretation of the great Qur'an by ibn Kathir, he [AAH] said: there was disagreement on the reason for the revelation of this verse… from Zayd ibn Aslam: the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] slept with the mother of Ibrahim [Sd. Mariya the Qubtic] in the house of some of his wives. That wife said: O, Messenger of Allah, in my house and on my bed?! He made her [Sd. Mariya] forbidden for himself. Mariya said: O, Messenger of Allah, how can you make what is lawful forbidden for you? He swore not sleep with her. So Allah revealed that verse [O Prophet! Why ban you that which Allah hath made lawful for you?] at-Tahrim 66:1. Zayd ibn Aslam said:  so his saying: You are forbidden for me does not count. At-Tabary also narrated it in his interpretation.

Ibn Kathir said: that was one of two secrets the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] entrusted them to Sd. Mariya, be she disclosed them to her fellow mothers of believers SD. Aisha and Sd. Hafsa, follows:

Narrated from Ubaid ibn Abdullah, from ibn Abbas, he said: I said to Omar ibn al-Khattab: who were the two women? He said: Aisha and Hafsa. The Hadith started about the mother of Ibrahim, Mariya, when the Prophet [PPBUH] slept with her in the house of Hafsa, on her day. Hafsa was angry, and said: O, Prophet of Allah, you have done to me something that have not done to anyone else of your wives, on my day, in my turn, and on my bed. He said (would you be satisfied if I made her forbidden to me, and I never touch her?) She said: Yes. So he did, and said (Do not mention this to anyone). But she mentioned it to Aisha, and Allah told him about it. Allah then revealed [O Prophet! Why ban you that which Allah hath made lawful for you, seeking to please your wives?...] at-Tahrim 66:1. It was narrated that the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] made amends for his swearing and slept with his odalisque.

I said: So one of the trails is the disclosure of the Messenger of Allah's secret, even to one of the very close ones of his family, because his secret [PPBUH] is in fact a divine one. It is not reasonable to believe that in the life of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] would be anything other than his Lord and the calling for Him. Anyone who has been so dumb to talk about him [PPBUH] as one of the general population of the humans, Allah forbid, is indeed not to be regarded. One of the trails also is to oppose the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] in any of his affairs, especially the private ones, because there can never be any lack in his judgment [PPBUH] so that one might think that the bad qualities of general humans can be referred to him while is infallible because of what his Lord exalted him from anything shameful.

Second: Thoughts and delusions that was related to the words of the Best of the creation:

In the interpretation of al-Qurtoby to the verse [When the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives] i.e. "remember when the Prophet disclosed some Hadith to Hafsa", which is related to the forbidding of Mariya to himself, and telling her not to disclose that. Al-Kalbey said: he told her in secret that her father and the father of Aisha will be his caliphs to his nation after him. Ibn Abbas also said that. He said: the Prophet entrusted the matter of the caliphate after him to Hafsa but she disclosed it.

I said: one of the delusions and wild thoughts, that were spread by the people of literature, language, and arts who been very famous, is their saying that the Messenger of Allah did not decide who of his companions would succeed him in the caliphate, in an effort to prove that he [PPBUH] was trying to lay out the principle of the council in Islam. So they lead to disparage the esteem of Sd. the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] as if his Lord would not tell him about who is to succeed him. In spite of all the Hadith that indicated that he [PPBUH] knew who is going to succeed him up to the end of days. Allah said [the Knower of the Unseen, and He reveals unto none His secret ¤ Save unto a messenger whom He has chosen, and then He makes strong watchers to go before him and behind him ¤ That He may know that they have indeed conveyed the messages of their Lord. He surrounds all their doings, and He keeps count of all things] al-Jinn 72:26-28. And what we have here is an example of that.

Ad-Darqatny narrated in his Sunan from al-Kalby from Abo-Saleh from ibn Abbas about the verse [When the Prophet disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives], he said: Hafsa saw the Prophet [PPBUH] with the mother of Ibrahim, the Prophet told her (Do not tell Aisha) and told her (Your father and her father will rule or will succeed after me, so do not tell Aisha). But Hafsa went out and told Aisha, so Allah told him, and he knew some of it and did not talk about some. He said: he did not talk about (Your father and her father will succeed after me). The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] hated for this to be spread among the people.

I said: This is because of his keenness to hid and his absolute politeness with his Lord. Also for his total Mercy [PPBUH] for his nation, as some of them can not bear some of these meanings like knowing the unseen, which might come hard on some unprepared minds.

Ad-Darqatny continued: [and she then divulged it] i.e. she told Aisha as they were bodies and helped each other against the other wives of the Prophet [PPBUH]. [and Allah made it known to him] i.e. Allah made it known to him that she disclosed his secret. The meaning of [he knew part thereof and did not talk about a part] out of honor. As-Sadeyy said that. Al-Hasan said: he who is honorable does not ever investigate.

I said: This means that Allah informs him of a lot of facts through revelation or insight, but he does not show out of that except the essential few that is needed, which is one his greatest merits with Allah, Almighty.

Al-Qurtuby said in his interpretation: Allah said: he knew some and did not talk about the other. Muqatel said: i.e. he told her some of what she said to Aisha, which is the Hadith of Om-Walad and did not tell her about some, which is what Hafsa said to Aisha: Abo-Bakr and Omar will rule after him. Al-Farraa said: the interpretation of [he knew part] with the lightening is that he was angry about it, and made a punishment for it, like when you say to some one did you some harm: I knew that. Meaning I will keep it and punish you for it. The Prophet [PPBUH] did punish her by divorcing her one divorce [in Islam, the act of divorce may happen three times before it becomes irreversible]. Omar said "if the family of al-Khattab had anything good in it, the Messenger of Allah would not have divorced you". Gabriel told the Prophet to return her and interceded for her. The Prophet isolated himself from his wives for a month, and he stayed in the room of Mariya, the mother of Ibrahim, until the verse of the forbidding was revealed. It was also said that he [PPBUH] was about to divorce her when Gabriel said to him "Do not divorce her as she is always fasting and worshiping and she is one of your wives in paradise", so he did not divorce her. [Then when he told her thereof] i.e. when he told Hafsa what Allah told him about her. [she said, "Who told you this?"] about me, O Messenger of Allah. she thought Aisha told him. He [PPBUH] said [He said, "He told me Who knows and is Well-Acquainted"] i.e. the One that nothing is hidden from him.

Third: The necessity of love what the beloved loves:

Allah said [If you two repent unto Allah] i.e. Hafsa and Aisha. Allah urged them to repent for what they did of inclining to what the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] does not like. [for your hearts have been inclined] i.e. your hearts deviated from the truth, as they liked what the Prophet [PPBUH] did not, of avoiding his odalisque, Sd. Mariya, and avoiding the honey while he used to like it, and his women were made likable to him. Ibn Zayd said: their hearts were inclined as they were pleased that he would be prevented from going to Om-Walad [the mother of the boy], so they were pleased with something that the Messenger of Allah hated. It was also said that it meat that your  heart were inclined to repentance, so He said [for your hearts have been inclined].

I said: so Allah made it a sin, when they were inclined and liked what the Messenger hates. He made it a sin that required repentance, because a lover is supposed to love all what his beloved love, and hate all what his beloved hates. So they said:

[and be the lover of his beloveds and be his supporter

and stay as the enemy of whoever starts to be his enemy]

Allah said [and if aid one another against him] i.e. if you collaborate against the Prophet [PPBUH] with disobedience and hurting. In Sahih of Muslim, from ibn Abbas, said: I stayed for a year wanting to ask Omar ibn al-Khattab about one verse, but could not because of his dignity and gravity, until once he went out for Hajj, and I went out with him. On our way back, he deviated to some trees for some need. I waited until he was finished, then I walked with him and said "O, prince of believers, who were the two women who aided each other against the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], of his wives"? He said "that was Hafsa and Aisha". I said "By Allah, I wanted to ask you about it for a year now, but could not out of your gravity". He said "then do not do that again. Whatever you think I know of knowledge, then ask me about it, and if I know it, I will tell you…" and he mentioned the rest of the Hadith. [then Allah is his Patron] i.e. his supporter and guardian, so this collaboration of them would not hurt him. [so Gabriel, the righteous believers], Ekremah and Saied ibn Gubayr said: He meant Abo-Bakr and Omar, as they are the fathers of Aisha and Hafsa and they helped him against them. It was also said that [the righteous believers] is Ali [AAH]. It was also said that they are the best believers.

I said: all these sayings are correct and complete in meaning. The conclusion is that all those who were mentioned preferred the love of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] to anything else in the whole universe even if it is about the their children, the parts of their liver, and the drops of their hearts. The love of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] was better to them than cold water in the firing mid-day of the summer of Mecca and Medina.

We would have more stops with these verses and related Hadith, as the talk about the Esteemed Great Prophet [PPBUH] is like a sea with no shores.
