A book from the library: books about Al-Malikiya

Imam Malak (Imam of the doctrine known by his name: "al-Malikiya") was known for his strong evidence and capable way in elicitation. That is why he was trusted by all the scholars to the extent that the recent Malikiya scholars did not have to mention any proof for the provisions of his doctrine as all scholars acknowledged Imam Malak's Fekh (knowledge). Al-Mowatta' - written by him - is the fundamental book for his doctrine, while the reference book for it is al-Modawana al-Kobra (The Great document) in the third century. In al-Modawana al-Kobra, Sahnon ibn Sacid gathered thousands of cases quoted from Imam Malik and narrated by his student Abdel-Rahman ibn al-Kasem.

Imam Maliki based his doctrine on seventeen principles which are: the text of Qur'an, its lexical meaning, its proof, its conception, its likened issues and these same five principles in Sunna, then the consensus (of Muslim scholars), juristic analogy, acts of al-Medina inhabitants, views of the companions of prophet Mohammad [PPBUH], discretion, preventing bad pretext, and association.

All these scholars did not only depended on books and papers to develop their knowledge but they were actually mentored by the highly knowledgeable scholars of their time. It started with the Prophet teaching and mentoring his companions (first generation), then the companions taught the followers (second generation), and so on from one generation of scholars to the other. Imam Malik was one of the greatest followers.

We introduce to you in the following, Al-Mowattaa (the source of imam Malek’s doctrine) and Al-Modawana Al-Kobrah (the Leader of this doctrine’s books):

Al-Mowatta'

Al-Mowattaa book of Imam Malek Bin Anas, he is one of the four imam’s to the people of Sunnah and his father is Anas ibn Malek the servant and the companion of our Prophet Mohammed [PPBUH] who narrated from our Prophet more than (2200) Hadith.

He spent most of his life in Madinah and he never wore a shoe in it, because he was afraid he may step with his shoe on a place where our Prophet [PPBUH] stepped.

He was famous with his knowledge and he became imam of Al-Higaz and the jurist of immigration’s home, even it was said 'No other advisory opinion can be said when Malek is in Madinah'. He was very strict when it comes to religion, bold in his opinion, and wide in his knowledge, yet he was modest with his students.

The caliph requested a book from him to set for the people to learn from and work with, so he composed this book 'Al-Mowattaa'. He also wrote a message of preaching to Haroun Al-Rashied.

Al-Mowattaa contained his doctrine, his technical way in jurisprudence. He combined between the doctrine of people of opinion and those of Hadith in the jurisprudence deduction.

The Ethics of the organs

The ethics of the outside organs of the body is the exterior of the Sufi order, and it is as follows:

1) The Tongue ethics: It must be moist with Dhikr of Allah, and speaks well about brothers, praying for them and giving preaching & advices. Never speak to brothers with what they hate and never backbit, gossip, curse or interfere with other’s affairs. If he is in a group of people, he will talk with them only when they talked in their affairs, but if they do not, he will leave them. He will talk with what suits the occasion, as it was said: 'For each situation There is a right speech'. It was also said: 'Allah created the tongue to translate what is inside the heart and a key of the good and evil'. It was said also: 'If you wanted goodness to your heart, then help yourself by saving your tongue and keeping silent, as silence is a cover to the clueless and a grace to the judicious. Our Prophet [PPBUH] said: (People will mainly drop to their faces in hell due to what they reap from their own tongues).

2) Listening ethics: never listens to obscenity, backbiting, gossip and foul, but listen to Dhikr, preaching, wisdom and what gives him advantages in this world and in the hereafter life. He should also listen well to those who talk to him.

3) Sight ethics: prevention of sight from taboos, defects of brothers, and fiuls as Allah knows the betrayal of the eyes and what is hidden inside each one. It was said that: 'who obeys his eyes, follows his death'. Our Prophet [PPBHU] said to Imam Ali [AAH]: (Never follow your eyes, because the first look is for you and the second is against you'.

4) Heart ethics: regarding the dignified matters of Sunnah, ignoring bad thoughts and meditate in the graces of Allah and the wonders of his creatures. Allah said in the Holy Quran: [and they meditate in the creation of Sky and Earth] (Aal 'Omran 3:191), and our prophet [PPBHU] said: (An hour of meditation is better than a whole year of worship). From the heart ethics also, the well thinking of Allah and the whole Muslims. Also, cleaning the heart from hatred, envying, bad thinking and bad beliefs, because these are all forms of heart betrayals. Allah said: [Lo! the hearing and the sight and the heart, of each of these he will be asked] (Al-Isra' :36). Our Prophet [PPBUH] said: (There is a bite in the body, if it turns good, the whole body will be good by it and if it turns bad, the whole body will be bad by it. This bite is the Heart). An agreed upon Hadith. Sariy Al-Saqtyi said: 'Hearts are three: a heart like a mountain, nothing can make it move. A heart like a palm tree, its roots are fixed but the wind moves it to right and left. And a heart like feather, the wind moves it everywhere and is fixed to nothing'.

5) Hands ethics: extend with charity, serve brothers and never use it to disobey God.

6) Feet ethics: walking for the integrity of himself and his brothers, and never walk with them in lark, vainglory, strutting around nor pride as this is what God hates, and never use them to disobey God.
