Those who pledge allegiance to you

[Indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bearer of good tidings and a warner * that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, and that you may support Him, revere Him,  and glorify Him morning and evening * Truly those who pledge allegiance to you in fact pledge allegiance to Allah. The Hand of Allah is above their hands. So whoever reneges, reneges against his own soul; and whoever fulfils the covenant which he has made with Allah, He will give him a great reward] Al-Fath 48:8-10

These verses are the most complementary verses in Qur'an, where the Messenger was praised with the words [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you in fact pledge allegiance to Allah. The Hand of Allah is above their hands].

About these verses, ibn Agiba says: Allah the Exalted Almighty says: [We have sent you as a witness] to testify for your nation on the Day of Resurrection, like the verse: [and that the Messenger might be a witness to you] Al-Baqarah 2:143, and it is a fate. [and a bearer of good tidings] for the people of obedience that they will go to paradise. [and a warner] for those who commit sins that they will have the hell. [that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger] the speech here is for the nation. [and that you may support Him] by defending His religion. [revere Him] by revering His Messenger and honoring His inviolabilities, [and glorify Him] to exalt Him and pray for Him. [morning and evening] they say its the prayers of the morning (Fajr) and of all other prayers (Zhuhr, Asr, Maghreb, Isha). The pronouns (Him) are all referring to Allah. It is not accepted that some say the first two are for the Prophet [PPBUH] and the last one is for Allah (for he is His Messenger, His representative, and deputy, so there should be no distinction). al-Maccy and al-Basry said that the order is for all people.

Imam Qushairy said: that the verse [Indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bearer of good tidings and a warner] means that the Prophet [PPBUH] will be the witness in the day of resurrection of his nation and also of the other messengers and holy books. They also say that it means a witness of My Oneness and Lordship, also for your nation's belief in My Unification, [and a bearer of good tidings] for you nation of their reword. [and a warner] for all creatures to rebel them and warn them of disobedience and conflicts. They also say: a witness for Me, a bearer of good tidings about Me, and a warner by Me and from Me. [that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, and that you may support Him, revere Him,  and glorify Him morning and evening] for the believers to believe in Allah and His Messenger, support the Messenger, revere the Messenger, and glorify and exalt Allah. The support of the Messenger is by the preference of him over yourself in every way and the acceptance of his judgment over yours. Revering him is by following his Sunna and knowing that he is the master of all creatures.

Ibn Agiba says about [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you] for Jihad in the ‘Pledge of Beatitude’ (bay'at al-ridwan) given at al-Hudaybiyya. [in fact pledge allegiance to Allah] because the Prophet is the caliph of Him, so the contract with him is a contract with Allah without any difference. This is like: [Whoever obeys the Messenger, he indeed obeys Allah] (an-Nisaa' 4:80). Then Allah emphasized that saying: [The Hand of Allah is above their hands] He means that the hand of the Messenger, which he put above their hands, is the hand of Allah, which is exaggerated simile.

(This is what is considered the highest decoration for the Messenger [PPBUH], and maybe the best complement and praising that he [PPBUH] got from Allah in the Qur'an).

Allah continued [whoever reneges] whoever breaches this pledge and did not fulfill his commitment, [reneges against his own soul] the only one who will be harmed is himself. Gaber [AAH] said: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], under the tree, to die and to not desert. No one of us reneged this pledge, except for Gadd ibn Qais, the hypocrite. He hid under his camel and did not go with his people. [and whoever fulfils the covenant which he has made with Allah] fulfilled his obligations from the covenant, [He will give him a great reward] paradise and what it contains.

Al-Qushairy said: When Allah said: [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you, in fact pledge allegiance to Allah] this pledge was the ‘Pledge of Beatitude’ (bay'at al-ridwan) given at al-Hudaybiyya under Samrah. The story is that:

The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] sent Osman [AAH] to Quraish to talk to them, but they spread rumors about murdering him. Then Orowa ibn Mas'oud came to the Prophet [PPBUH] and said: "I came to you with the rabble of Quraish to see for yourself what they say. Quraish has prepared for fighting you. I can imagine your companions leaving you when they experience the heat of the weapons". Abu-Bakr [AAH] said: Do you think that we would give the Messenger of Allah up? [PPBUH]. That is when the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] pledge allegiance with them to fight and to not desert. Then Allah revealed down [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you in fact pledge allegiance to Allah] which means that: your contract with them is the contract of Allah. The words of Allah [The Hand of Allah is above their hands] i.e. the Hand of Allah in the grace of success and guidance is above their hands in fulfilling their covenant. They say The power of Allah and His force in supporting His religion and His Prophet [PPBUH] is over their support to His religion and His Messenger. In this verse a proclamation of the High Hadra of Ain-al-Gamie [the center of the Gathering], as where Allah said [and you threw not, when you threw, but Allah threw] al-Anfal 8:17.

When Allah said: [So whoever reneges, reneges against his own soul] That is: the torture from the breach will only be specific to those who renege. [and whoever fulfils the covenant which he has made with Allah, He will give him a great reward] i.e. whoever carry out what he contracted Allah to do to the full extent, then Allah will give him great reward.

If the slave of Allah is described by his devotion, dealing with Allah through his realized experience, and has a witness in his heart, then the media shown by the signs of definitions will make him vanish in his secrets... and then the verdict will then be referred.

Ibn Agiba said about the signs we got from these verses, that for each generation of people, Allah sends someone to remind them and call them to Allah through the knowledge about Him or through reviving His religion. This way, the faith in Allah and His Messenger will continue, the victory and glory will always be to the religion until the Day of Judgment. If it was not for those caliphs, the religion would have been lost.

About the words of [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you] ... the verse, al-Wartagbey said: Allah declared that the Prophet [PPBUH] is a mirror to show Allah and His attributes. This is the rank of acquiring attributes from the lights of the divine self and attributes in the lights of the doing, until he became Him. when the doing disappears in the attribute and the attribute disappears in the self. Then Allah said: [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you] ... the verse. This is what al-Hallag and the others refer to. In the Qout he said: This is the most complementary and praising verse in Qur'an for the Prophet [PPBUH], because Allah made him a substitute for Himself. Allah said in the verse: [in fact pledge allegiance to Allah], which is not applicable to any of the creatures but the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH].

Al-Hasan ibn Mansour al-Hallag said: Allah never declared this rank of Gamie [gathering] to anyone except for the most special and honored one, that is when he said: [Truly those who pledge allegiance to you in fact pledge allegiance to Allah]. end of ibn Agiba's interpretation.
As al-Qushairy said: in this verse there is a proclamation of the High Hadra of Ain-al-Gamie [the center of the Gathering], as where Allah said [
and you threw not, when you threw, but Allah threw] al-Anfal 8:17. He also said in his concise book: He is referring to the perfection of his vanishing [PPBUH] in Allah and his existence in Him. end. The verse is referring to the rank of Gamie [gathering] which is mentioned in the Hadith of the Prophet [PPBUH] when Allah says: (... When I love him, I become his hearing, his sight, his hands, ...) and all his forces. That is the secret of the caliphate and the existence by Allah. This Thing happens to the caliphs of the Prophet [PPBUH], the knowledgeable of Allah, the people of vanishing and existence.  These are the people educated by the Prophet at all time, whoever pledge allegiance to them, pledge allegiance to Allah, and whoever looks at them, looks at Allah. Whoever reneges his covenant after contracting them, reneges against his own soul. His will tree will dry, the light of his insight will be blacked out, and he will return back to the state of the common people of the right [al-Yamin]. On the other hand, whoever fulfills his commitment with Allah, he will be greatly rewarded in the continuous witnessing of His divine self and gaining of the rank of the closest people [al-Moqarrabin].

May Allah help us maintain His straight path without return or relapse. Amin.
