Great Ancestors' Books

Since we are constantly in need for the non-distorted books of our predecessors, and since some irresponsible groups had intentionally or unintentionally printed distorted books and spread them either in the markets or on the internet, there aroused an insisting need to find reliable sources for the books and knowledge of the virtuous predecessors. So, we are nominating to you some sister sites that choose accurately every book they present. This way you can easily find the books and texts of our predecessors which some people tried to hide and conceal, but Allah will complete His guidance, even if biased people dislike.

We will mention some of the books, from these sites, that sheikh Fakhr Eldin quoted from in his books and lessons. More information about these sites are in the library page in our main site.

Sunan ibn Magah

The book of Sunan ibn Magah is by Hafiz Abo-Abdullah Mohamed ibn Magah. Magah is the title of his father who was a great Imam, accurate and accepted unanimously. The book is explained by as-Sanadi, Imam Aboel-Hasan al-Hayqi, known as as-Sanadi, died 1138H. nadi said that his comments were only for adjusting the words, strange things and grammar. he also said that this book is one of the six main books of Hadith. It contained many special matters that was only attributed to it. Imam al-Busayri, died 840H, collected most of these special matter in the book the lamp of the lantern, and as-Sanadi took from it in his comments. as-Sayouti quoted in the footnotes of the book from ar-Rafie that the book was shown to Abo-Zar'a ar-Razi and he liked it, and said that it did not miss except in 3 Hadith. also in the footnotes of an-Nasa'i, he said that he narrated from some men who were accused of lying and faking. There is a story about ibn Taher: he said that Abo-Zar'a said: it may have no more than 30 Hadith with some weakness. however, in the book of the reasons by Abo-Hatim, it showed that Abo-Zar'a judged many Hadiths of it as null or rejected. but most scholars agreed that the book of Sunan ibn-Magah is the sixth book of the Sahih books.

The researcher only narrated the Hadiths of the book against the other of the six books and numbered it according to the Indexed Dictionary and the Masterpiece of the Nobels.

The Knowledgeable Glorious Scholars

Thanks to Allah who has made the knowledgeable scholars successors to the prophets to inherit their manners and became role models for everyone. Many people got strayed and got away from the guidance of the Beloved [PPBUH] when they did not take the great old knowledgeable scholars of this nation as their source of knowledge, instead they became addicted to taking from the recent simple ones. This way they got away from what their righteous ancestors used to have and what was settled by the Islamic nation for decades and centuries.

The Prophet [PPBUH] said: (People are still in blessing as long as they took their knowledge from their knowledgeable elders. When they start taking from their young unknowledgeable ones then they are doomed). The Prophet [PPBUH] also said: (This religion is knowledge, so be careful who to get from). He [PPBUH] also said: (When the knowledgeable scholars die, people will choose their leaders from unknowledgeable ones. When they ask them, they will answer without knowledge, so they will lead astray and mislead everyone, and there is no strength no power but from Allah).

sayydi Fakhreddin Mohamed Osman [AAH] said:

[If you were asked: What is the book? It is       from what is narrated by the great scholars] (qasida 15:47)

All scholars agreed that no one can disparage any word from the Prophet [PPBUH] or judge it as being fabricated or weakly narrated, unless he has an absolute proof from Qur'an or Sunna of the Prophet [PPBUH]. From the start of the first century and up until now, great scholars [AAT] have taken the mission of preserving Turath of our true religion [inherited knowledge from the Prophet, His companions, and our great scholars]. They have been preserving it the same way as the Prophet [PPBUH] wanted them to do. That is how the authentic Hadith, true interpretations, and Historical events from the start of Mohammad' Message till our current day, were preserved and predicated honestly and truthfully. One of the main glorious scholars, with a great resume, is:

Imam ibn Magah [AAH]

He is the great Imam Hafiz Abu-Abdullah Mohamed ibn Yazied ibn Magah ar-Rabiee al-Qezwiny. He was born in Qazwin on 209H.

His Relation and Home country:

Ibn Khalakan said “Magah”, judge Abu-Ya’ly al-Khalily said “his father Yazied was known as Magah, and his loyalty was to Rabie’a”.

His growth and life:

Ibn Magah grew up in a scientific environment. So he grew up loving the Shari’a knowledge in general, and the Hadith knowledge in particular. He memorized Qur’an. He frequently went to the circles of Hadith people, which filled the mosques of Qazwin, until he got a great deal of Hadith.

He immigrated on 230H seeking Hadith and talking to the sheikhs and learning from them. So he went to Khorasan, Basra, Khoufa, Baghdad, Damascus, Mecca, Medina, Egypt, and other countries, to learn about the different schools of the honorable Prophetic Hadith. He had a chance to meet some of the sheikhs of each country, he went to.

His sheikhs:

Due to his frequent travels, he had sheikhs in each country he went to. From his sheikhs there were: Hafiz Mohamed at-Tanafisy, from whom he narrated much, and Ibrahim ibn al-Munzir al-Hazamy, who died on 236H. he was also a student of Bukhary,  and Mohamed ibn Abdullah ibn Namir, Jabbarah ibn al-Mughlis, who was one of his oldest sheikhs, Abdullah ibn Moawiya al-Gamhi, Hisham ibn Ammar, Mohamed ibn Romh, Dawud ibn Rashid, and also Mohamed ibn al-Muthanna ibn Ubaid ibnQays ibn Dinar al-Basry,who was calledhe Time,Abu-Bakr ibn Abo-Shayba, Alqama ibn Amro ad-Darmy, Azhar ibn Marwan, Mohamed ibn Bashar, Amro ibn Osman ibn Said, Abo-Hozafa as-Sahmey, Mosab ibn Abdullah az-Zubayri, and many others, whom he mentioned in his Sunan and other books.

After a long journey, which took more than 15 tears, ibn Magah came back to Qazwin, settled there, and was dedicated to writing, classifying, and narrating Hadith. That was after he had became famous and sought by students from every where.

His students:

His scientific activities were not just about writing, rather it went beyond it to education, lecturing, and lessons. The most famous out of those who narrated from him and became his students were Ali ibn Said ibn Abdullah al-Ghadani, Ibrahim ibn Dinar al-Garshi al-Hamadani, Ahmed ibn Ibrahim al-Qazwini; the grand father of Hafiz Abo-Ya'ly al-Khalili, Abo-at-Tayyeb Ahmed ibn Rawh al-Baghdadi, Ishaq ibn Mohamed al-Qazwini, Gafar ibn Idris, Mohamed ibn Isa as-Saffar, Hafiz Abuel-Hasan Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Salama al-Qazwini, ibn Seybawia, Soliman ibn Yazid al-Qazwini, and others of the great famous narrators.

His books:

Time did not keep any of his books except his book of Sunan ibn Magah which is one of the six Sahih books. The rest of his book were lost with all what was lost of our great inherited treasures. As he had an interpretation of Qur'an which was described by ibn Katheir, in his book "the Beginning and the End" as "an overloaded interpretation". He also had a book about the history from the era of the companions to his era, about which ibn Kathir also said "a complete history".

The book of "Sunan ibn Magah" became very famous all over the countries. Ibn Magah became famous for this book, and took his place among the great Hafiz and Hadith people. This book is the greatest of his books and the that was kept along time. It is considered the fourth of the great Sunan books: of Abu-Dawud, at-Turmuzi, an-Nasa'I, and ibn Magah. And it is the completing book of the six Sahih books, which contains Sahih al-Bukhary and Sahih Muslim beside the four mentioned ones, and which are the principle references and sources of the honorable Prophetic Sunna.

The method of ibn Magah in his book was to arrange it in books and sections, as it contained an introduction, 37 books, and 1500 sections, which contained 4342 Hadith. From these Hadith 3002 Hadith were common with the other five Hadith books. He narrated 1329 Hadith over what came in the other five books: 428 Hadith of it are of the rank Sahih and 119 Hadith of it are of the rank good. That what ibn Hajar mentioned when he said "He narrated alone many of the Sahih Hadith".

Ibn Magah did very good when he started his book with a section on following the Sunna of the Prophet [PPBUH], where he narrated the Hadith about the lawfulness of the Sunna, and the requisite of following and working with it.

The book of Sunan in critique:

Ibn Magah said: I showed this Sunan to Abu-Zar'a ar-Razy, he look at it and said "I do not think that most of the collecting book would last in the presence of this Sunan with the people". Then he said "it may have no more than 30 Hadith with weakness in its ascription". Ibn Magah was an honest Hafiz, a critique, and a widely knowledgeable scholar, however his book of Sunan was a little bit behind in the rank because of the 30 Hadith that Abu-Zar'a mentioned.

Az-Zahaby said "th Sunan of Abu-Abdullah is a good book, but it had spme weak Hadith which were not many". Ibn Hajar said "his book of Sunan is a good collecting book, with many sections and strange things. It has some so weak Hadith that as-Sary used to say: whatever news he had it alone has some weakness. But I do not think this is absolute. In general it has some unknown Hadith, with Allah's help".

However Abuel-Hasan al-Qattan said "in the Sunan there are 1500 section and 4000 Hadith". And in the same line of ascription to ibn Magah he said: from Ismail ibn Hafs, from Abu-Bakr ibn Ayyash, from al-Aamash, from Abu-Sufian, from Gaber, the Prophet [PPBUH] said (when the dead one enters the grave, the sun in sunset will be simulated for him, so he would sit wiping his eyes, and saying: let me pray). Narrated by Hafiz Diyaa in "the Chosen ones", from Mowafaq ad-Dein ibn Qudamah.

The Explanations of the Sunan:

Because of the value and the rank of this book, many of the great Hafiz and men of Hadith gave it special attention, so they elaborated much on its explanation, and commented on it. From that are the following:

-         "the explanation of Sunan of ibn Magah" by Hafiz Alaa-eddin Meghlatay, died on 762H.

-         "the Lamp of the Glass in explaining Sunan of ibn Magah" by Galal-eddin as-Seyouti, died 911H.

-         "the explanation of Sunan of ibn Magah" by Hadith scholar: Mohamed ibn Abdul-Hady as-Sanady, died 1138H.

-         The Great Hadith scholar Shehab-eddin Ahmed ibn Zain-eddin al-Busayri collected the excess Hadith of the Sunan in a book and ascribed it and talked about its status from Sahih, good, to weak.

The opinions of the scholars about him:

Ibn Magah had the admiration and the trust of his contemporaries. He was considered as one of the great Imams and Hadith scholars. Ibn Khalkan said about him "he was an Imam of Hadith and knowledgeable of all its sciences and everything related to it". Az-Zahaby said about him "ibn Magah was Hafiz, critique, honest, and widely knowledgeable scholar". Abu-Yaaly al-Khalili said "he is a big trustworthy, agreed upon, ascribed with, has the knowledge of Hadith, memorized it, and he traveled to Iraq, Mecca, Sham, Egypt, and ar-Ray for the books of Hadith". Hafiz Mohamed ibn Tahir said "I have seen for ibn Magah, a book on history on all men and countries up to his era".

His death:

After a great life full of knowing and narrating honorable Prophetic Hadith, and also as a learner, a teacher, and a composer of books, ibn Magah died on Monday and was buried on Tuesday with 8 days left of Ramadan on the year 273H. his brother Abu-Bakr prayed for him the funeral prayer and buried him with the help of his other brother Abu-Abdullah and his son Abdullah ibn Mohamed ibn Yazid.
