Lout [PBUH]

After the emigration of sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] to Egypt, then returning to ash-Sham (Syria), sayydi Lout [PBUH] was accompanying him [PBUH] till Allah, Almighty, sent sayydi Lout [PBUH] out to the people of Sedom, who were polytheists and were doing the obscene sin. Allah, Almighty, said in His Holy Book about the people of Lout [Lo! you commit lewdness such as no one did before you from the worlds ¤ For you come in unto males, and you cut the road, and you commit abomination in your club]  al-Ankabout 28-29. Sayydi Lout [PBUH] was urging them to worship Allah, and trying to prevent them from doing things that Allah hate from them. He used to was threaten them from the painful torture for their insistence on committing these sins and abstaining from repentance and returning back to Allah. However his preaching did not forbid them from these sins, rather they became more persistent and hastened the punishment of Allah. They said to sayydi Lout [PBUH] "Show us the torture of Allah if you are true". In the end sayydi Lout [PBUH] asked His Lord victory against them, so Allah, when He willed to perish them and to grant His Messenger victory over them, sent them His angels Gabriel, Michael and Israfiel [PBUT]. They came in the form of men, then Allah, Almighty, ordered them to go first to sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH]. They arrived near sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] while he was plowing the earth for his plants. When the water found its way to his land, he focused his area, and prayed behind it two prostrations. The Angels looked at sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] and said to themselves "If Allah willed to adopt a Khalil [intimate companion], He would adopt this servant as a Khalil". They did not know at that time that Allah has already adopted him His Khalil. When they reached Him, it was fifteen days since sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] last received a guest. So he was so rejoiced for them and also because he has never seen more handsome nor shining faces like them. He said "No one will serve those people except me with my hands". Then He [PBUH] went out to his people and brought a fat calf, cooked it well, and served it for them. But they refrained from eating. [And when he saw their hands reached not to it, he mistrusted them and conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! Lo! We are sent unto the folk of Lout] Houd 11:70. Then they brought up the good tiding to sayyda Sarah [AAH] that she would give birth to sayydi Ishaq and sayydi Yaqoub [Jacob] after him [PBUT]. She said "Woe to me! Will I give birth while I am an old woman and my husband is an old man? What a strange thing!" At that time, sayyda Sarah [AAH] was ninety years old and sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] was one hundred and twenty years old. After the fear went away from sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] and after he heard the good tidings, he went to argue with Gabriel [PBUH]. Sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] argued about Lout's people [PBUH] and said to Gabriel [PBUH] "What if there were fifty Muslims among them?" The Angels said "If there were fifty Muslims among them, Allah would not torture them". He said "What about forty?" They said "Also if they were forty". He [PBUH] said "What about thirty?" and so on till he reached ten. They said "Even if there were ten Muslims among them, Allah would not torture them". He said "What if there was one Muslim, would you perish the city?" They said "No, we would not do that". Then sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] said [He said: Lo! Lout is there. They said: we are best aware of who is there. We are to save him and his household, all except his wife, who is to be gone] al-Ankabout 29:32. Then they went to Sedom, the city of sayydi Lout [PBUH].

It was narrated that they found sayydi Lout [PBUH] working in his land out of the city. Allah, Almighty, made them a condition not to perish them until sayydi Lout [PBUH] gave them four testimonies. When they came to sayydi Lout [PBUH], they said to him "We are your guests tonight". So he took them to his house and while they were walking, he said to them "Do not you know what the people of this village do?" They said "What?" He [PBUH] said "By Allah, I do not know of any human being more malicious than them on the earth". He said that four times.

Also it was narrated that the angels met the daughter of sayydi Lout [PBUH] and said to her "O, Girl, is any house here?" She said "Yes, but do not you enter the city till I come back to you", as she was afraid of her people. She went to her father and said "O, my father, go catch some young men at the city door. As I have never seen any faces more shining than their faces. So you must go help them before your people disgrace them".

The people of Lout [PBUH] had stipulated before on him not to host any man. So sayydi Lout [PBUH], when he brought them, did not inform anyone about them except his household. His woman went out and told her people. She had a special signal to inform her people if any guest came to sayydi Lout [PBUH]. She used to ask for salt from her neighbors, then they would know that there were guests in the house of sayydi Lout's [PBUH], then they would hurry to his house. So when his people came, sayydi Lout [PBUH] closed the door in their faces and said to them [Fear Allah and do not disgrace me in my guests, is there not any rational man among you?] Houd 11:78. He offered them one of his daughters instead of the guests, but they said to him [You know that we have no right to your daughters, and well You know what we want] Houd 11:79. When they did not accept His offer, [He said: Would that I had strength to resist you or had some strong support!] Houd 11:80, that is; if I had any supporters or a clan to protect me from you. When he said that, the Messengers said to him "Your support is great and strong. Allah never sent a Prophet except He gave him a wealth in his people and a protection in his clan.

The people attacked the door, opened it, and entered. Gabriel [PBUH] asked Allah's permission to punish those people, and then Allah permitted him to do. Gabriel [PBUH] spread his wing and gouged their eyes out. They went out running over each other asking for help and saying "The greatest magicians on earth are in the house of Lout [PBUH]". The Messengers said to sayydi Lout [PBUH] [O Lout! Lo! We are messengers of your Lord; they shall not reach you. So travel with thy people in a part of the night, and let not one of you turn around, save your woman…] Houd 11:81.

Allah, Almighty, took them out to ash-Sham. Sayydi Lout [PBUH] said to the Messengers of Allah [PBUT] "Perish them now". They said "We were ordered to do that in the morning". Then in the morning Gabriel [PBUH] entered his wing in the land of their five villages, and raised them so high that heaven's people heard the crowing of their cocks and the barking of their dogs. Then he overthrew it and made its top at the bottom. He rained on them stones of clay of fire. Lout's woman heard the sound of demolishing and said "O, my people!", so a stone reached her and perished her. Allah saved sayydi Lout [PBUH] and his family except his wife.

It was said that the number of his people was four hundred thousand and the cities of Lout's people [PBUH], which called was called "al-Mo'tafekat", are seven. Some said it was five and there is some conflict about them. However Sedom is the greatest city of them, the others are "Amourah, Dab'ah, Douma, Sa'wah" .

Ibn Abi-d-Donya, al-Bayhaqy, and ibn Asaker narrated from Abi-Hamza that he said "I said to Mohammed ibn Ali that: Allah torture the women of Lout's people for the deeds of their men. He said "Allah is fairer than that. The men became satisfied with men and so did the women with women".

Also Abdul-Razzaq, Abo-Dawoud, at-Turmuzy, an-Nesa'y, Ibn Magah, ibn Abi-d-Donia, al-Hakem -and said it is Sahih- and al-Bayhaqy narrated from ibn Abbas that the Prophet [PPBUH] said (Whoever you find doing what the people of Lout did, then kill both the doer and whom it is done with).
