The Messenger and the Unknown

May Allah guide all of us to love the Messenger [PPBUH], to come together to his river in paradise and to gather under his raised banner. Verily the honorable Messenger sayyiduna Muhammad [PPBUH] is the closest creature to Allah in loving, the greatest in Message, the best in intercession, the highest in rank, the closest in position and the clearest in demonstration. Allah, Almighty, has bestowed upon him [PPBUH] gifts He did not give to anyone else of the worlds, The Truth, Almighty, said about him [PPBUH] in His Holy Book that was inspired to the heart of His honorable Messenger [PPBUH] [Your Lord will give you, until you will be satisfied] ad-Duha 93:5.

The Almighty has taught him and has flooded him [PPBUH] with His knowledge till the Truth said on his tongue in His Holy Book [Then exalted be Allah, the King, the Truth! and be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation to you is made complete, but say, "O, my Lord! Advance me in knowledge"] Taha 20:114. From this knowledge that are especially for him [PPBUH], some was unknown to the people, some was unknown to Jinn, some was unknown to the Angels and some was unknown to the prophets and messengers [PBUT]. However some people have been ignorant enough to wade into what he does not know, and say with denial: Does the Messenger [PPBUH] know of the unknown?! What a wonder of those! Did they forget or pretend to forget that the faith is all unknown? Is not the day of Resurrection unknown? Is not death unknown? Are not the judgment and punishment unknown? Are not paradise and hell unknown? Are not heaven and what it contains unknown? and earth and what it contains inside its interior, are not it unknown? Is not the belief in the unknown is one from the believers' attributes? Allah, Almighty, said [Those who believe in the unknown, do their prayers and spent from what we provided them] al-Baqarah 2:3, then did not the Almighty say [The Only knower of the unknown, no one can know of His unknown ¤ except whom He accepted of a messenger] al-Jinn 72:26-27? And who is more accepted from Allah, Almighty, than the Messenger [PPBUH]? He [PPBUH] told us about the details of the day of Resurrection and what happens then and told us about the paradise and hell. He [PPBUH] described for us what is there of grace and torture, and he described for us heavens and who live there from angels, messengers, and prophets. He described too its thickness and its formation. He [PPBUH] also described for us the Chair, The Secured Board, the Sedra and the Throne. He told us the news of the previous nations and described for us the prophets, the messengers and the books that was revealed down to them. As the right saying of Imam Fakhreddin when he [AAT] said in this context:

[It is beyond counting what He came with

And it never perishes on the day when selves perishes]

Imam Ahmed has narrated in his Musnad [predicate] from the saying of Abi-Zarr [AAH] that he said "When the Messanger of Allah [PPBUH] left us, there was no bird flying in the sky unless he gave us about it some knowledge".

It was narrated from him [PPBUH] that he saw the invasion of Mo'tah while he [PPBUH] was staying at the enlightened Medina. Ibn Sayed an-Nas has narrated in “Uioon Al-Athar” with his predication that Moses Bin Uqbah said that Ya'li bin Maneyah came to the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] with the news of the people of Mo'tah. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said to him (if you wish you could tell me, and if you wish I would tell you) Ya'li said: so tell me, O, Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] told him all their news and described to him all what happened. Ya'li said: By the One who sent you out with the Truth, you did not miss even one letter from their story and their conditions is exactly as you mentioned. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said (Allah raised the land for me till I saw their battle).

It was narrated that on the day of conquest of Mecca, the Prophet [PPBUH] entered Ka'ba with Belal. The Messenger [PPBUH] asked Belal to call to the prayer. At that time Abo-sufian ibn Harb, 'Utab ibn 'Usaid and al-Hareth ibn Hisham were setting at the courtyard of Ka'ba. Then 'Utab said: Allah honored 'Usaid, that he did not hear this - the call to prayer - as if he heard that he would have been enraged. Al-Hareth said: By Allah, if I know that this is right I would follow it. Then Abo-Sufian said: I will not say any thing, as if I talk, these pebbles would tell on me. The Prophet [PPBUH] came out to them and said (I have known what you said), then he told them that. Then al-Hareth and 'Utad said: We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah, By Allah, there was no one with us to know this, then we would have said: he told you.

Ibn Hisham also narrated in his book “the Biography” that fadalah ibn 'Umair ibn al-Mulawah wanted to kill the Prophet [PPBUH] while he was circumambulating Ka'ba in the year of the conquest. When he approached him, the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said (are you Fadalah?) He said: Yes, I am Fadalah, O, Messenger of Allah. He [PPBUH] replied (about what were you talking to your self?) Fadalah said: nothing, I was doing Dhikr Allah. The Prophet [PPBUH] laughed and said (I ask Allah forgiveness), then he put his hand on Fadalah’s chest. Fadalah’s heart calmed down. Fadalah said: By Allah, as soon as he took his hand off my chest, there was nothing, Allah created, that I love more than him.

Ibn Ishaq narrated about the battle of Tabouk, that the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] walked until He passed part of the way. Then his she-camel got lost. Zaid ibn al-Lasait, who was a hypocrite, said: Is not Muhammad alleges that he is a prophet and tells you about heaven? Then how come, he does not know where his camel is! The Prophet [PPBUH] said (There is a man who said…), and he mentioned what that man has said. (By Allah, I do not know except what Allah taught me. And Allah has shown where it is. It is in the valley at the mountain pass of so and so. It is hindered by a tree which held its bridle. So go bring it back to me). They went there, found it, and brought it back.

Al-Waqedi said: A delegation from Ghamed came to the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] in the tenth year of Hijra, they were ten, they set there camp at the place of the graves of Baqui' al-Gharqad. Then they went to meet the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] leaving behind the youngest one of them with their luggage. However he slept beside it then a thief came and stole the package of one of them that contained some of his clothes. The people reached the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], saluted him and testified to Him with Islam. He [PPBUH] wrote to them a book including some of Islamic Shari’a and said to them (Who is the one, you left, with your luggage)? They said: The youngest one of us, O, Messenger of Allah. He [PPBUH] said (He slept off your luggage till someone came and took the package of one of you). One of the people said: O, Messenger of Allah, no one of the people has a package except me. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said (It was taken then returned back to its place). The people went out quickly until they came to their luggage. They found their companion. They asked him about what the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] told them. He said: I woke up suddenly then I missed the package, so I looked for it. I saw a man who was setting, then rose and ran away as soon as he saw me. When I reached where he was sitting, I saw traces of digging, I found out that he has buried the package there.  I got it out. They said: We testify that he is The Messenger of Allah, as he told us about its taking and bringing back. They went back to the Prophet [PPBUH] and told him. The young man, whom they left behind, came with them and embraced Islam.

Ibn Saad narrated, with his predication, that: Shayba ibn Osman was a righteous man who had virtue. He was talking about how he embracing Islam and about what Allah willed for him goodness. He said: I have not seen anything more odd than what we used to be, of follow our ancestor’s astray. Then he said: when the year of conquest came, and the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] entered Mecca by force, I said to myself: I should walk with Quraysh to Hawazen at Honin. As may be if they got mixed, I could kill Muhammad by surprise, to retaliate from him, and thus I would be the one who took the revenge of all Quraysh. I was saying to myself that if all the Arabs and the Persians followed Muhammad, and no one is left except me, I would never follow him. I was watching for what I went out for, and I would not change except get more persistent. When the people got mixed, the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] came down from his mule. I took the sword out of its sheath and approached him intending what I want before. I raised my sword till I was about to kill him, but fragments of fire, like lightening, were raised to me and was about to render me blind, so, I put my hand on my eyes for fear of losing it. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] turned to me and called (O, Shaib, come near). So I came to him, then he [PPBUH] wiped my chest and said (O, Allah, protect him from the devil) Shaib said: By Allah, at that time, he [PPBUH] became more beloved to me than my hearing, my sight and my soul. Allah took away what I had of bad thoughts. Then he said to me (come near and fight). I came forward, in front of him hitting with my sword, Allah knows that I was preferring to protect him from every thing with my self, and if I met my father then, if he was alive, I would have hit him with the sword.

I keep standing by him with some others until Muslims re-gathered together, and then they attacked strongly as the attack of one man. The mule of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] was brought near him and he mounted it and went after the polytheists till they were separated every where. He [PPBUH] got back to his camp and entered his tent, I entered to him with no other one for the love of seeing his Face, as I was delighted by him. He [PPBUH] said (O, Saib, what Allah willed for you is better than what you wanted for yourself). He then told me about all I had hidden in my self which I never told any one about before. So I said: I testify that no God but Allah and you are the Messenger of Allah, then I said to him [PPBUH]: Ask Allah forgiveness for me. He [PPBUH] said (May Allah forgave you).

The talk about the knowing of Prophet [PPBUH] of the unknown is never ending as this is like a sea without a coast for it and a great unlimited rain. The books of the biography are full of news known by the righteous ones, and denied by the debauched ones. And the writer of the poem al-Burdah was so right when he said:

[Leave what the Christians alleged about their Prophet

and say what you want for praising him and be wise]

[Ascribe to his self what you want of honor

and ascribe to his worth what you want of grandeur]

[As the vertue of the Messenger of Allah has no

limit that the eloquent speaker can express with his mouth]
