An article by a Sudanese woman staying in Saudi Arabia. She is directing the Sudanese women.
Employment of women between acceptance and rejection
Employment of women in the middle-eastern countries - either within the country or abroad - has been argumentative for a long time. People may not differ on the work of woman that fits their nature and preserves her dignity. There are a lot of jobs and professions that are suitable for her nature and through which she can produce, create, and be useful for herself and her country. On the other hand, there are some professions that may degrade her, as these professions do not suit her nature and bring her a lot of troubles and harassments, so I will narrate to you some of what I've seen in foreign lands. I was sitting with my parents and some relatives in one of the public parks in al-Riyadh City where coincidence played a big role. Few minutes passed - no more than half an hour- when suddenly a woman carrying a bag came to sell goods for us, then followed by another one who aslo came to sell. Sudanese and foreigners continued to sell goods in a strange insistance, until we left.
I toured the park with a relative of mine and we found a "women market", which included mostly Sudanese; this informal park market contained a large number of clothing, accessories, and other things. Then I asked my self; is it the need or something else? Some women believe they have to improve their financial situation regardless of what they will do? Unfortunately, some of them use children in such professions. You may find a heart-breaking scene of a child selling things. This makes you wish to buy anything just for her innocent talk and young age. Woman's working to earn her living is normal and no one can deny it. But, the dispute about working of migrant women is still between proponents and opponents. Views may meet and agree that some professions are not worthy to any woman in general and to Sudanese women in particular. Dear women, our children are our beloved ones, so don't expose them for worthless pennies. It is better to keep away from such jobs that degrade women's dignity and honor. You are the past, the present, the future, and the educator of the new generation. This problem found a great interest in large number of media platforms concerning my country and the latest one was [the pride of Sudan families' organization] in Riyadh. I presented last year this problem in Riyadh transparently. All the attendants of this session refused these marginal professions that are not proper for the Sudanese women. My dear sister, even if time enforces you to take emergency measures, do not involve your children.
