On an Exalted Standard

We are always celebrating the births of the family members of the Prophet [PPBUH] and as we always consider the outstanding and the great gifts that Allah almighty has given us. We surely find that the greatest gift of all is the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH].

How great you are, O, Beloved of Allah, as Allah, Almighty, has granted you what no one else, prophet, messengers, or all humans, was granted. Allah has given you many gifts in this world and in the hereafter.

Ibn Gazey said that it includes having: great ancestors, intelligent mind, very much knowledge and worship, extreme modesty, generosity, honesty, courage, patience, gratitude, chivalry, deliberateness, asceticism, humility, compassion, justice, forgiveness, self-restraint, goodness to kinship, good companionship, great planning, eloquence, power of senses, decent appearance.

This means that the Prophet [PPBUH] combined all the good merits and great characteristics. Each one of these merits has its own detailed description, but here is a brief summary of what was said about the exalted standard of his character [PPBUH]: Allah almighty described his Prophet by saying [And you are on an exalted standard] al-Qalam 68:4. Al-Bayhaqy narrated in his Sunnan and al-Bazzar in his Musnad that the Prophet [PPBUH] said (I was sent to perfect the good manners). And when Aisha [AAH] was asked about his [PPBUH] manners, she said “Nobody had better manners than the Prophet [PPBUH], no one of his family or companions would call him unless he answers Labbaik [here I am at your service]”. She [AAH] also said “his manners was the Qur'an”

All the described manners that he had [PPBUH] were gifted by Allah, i.e. originated in his nature since birth and were definitely not acquired during life. Imam Junid said “His attitude [PPBUH] was called ‘Exalted’ because he had no determination or aim except for Allah, Almighty. His manners were also called ‘Great’ and he [PPBUH] was described with it on its perfect way”. The Prophet [PPBUH] was praised in Musnad of Imam Ahmad by saying “Whoever was given his share of tenderness would also have his share of goodness. Nothing is more worth than possessing good manners”

Ibn Ageeba said “Good manners is an evidence for the inveteracy of particularity, and the lack of good manners is an evidence for its absence”.

Abdul-Rahman al-Aref said “He [PPBUH] was on exalted standard because his chest was purified with the light. As Allah, Almighty, said [Have We not caused your bosom to cheer?] As-sharh 94:1”. The Prophet’s bosom was cheered with light, opened, purified, and the devil removed then it was filled with wisdom and light.  Hence, it was something purely done by Allah, and for Him Almighty. So the Prophet [PPBUH] is clinging only to Allah, and he was suitable to Qur'an and the Qur'an became his standard. Then the revelation went through him, and he abided by it in all his matters.

Wahb ibn-Monbeh said “I read seventy one books and I found in all of them that Allah did not give all human beings, from the beginning of the creation to its end, of minds compared to the mind of the Prophet [PPBUH] except like one grain of sand to all sands in this world. I also found out that, the Prophet [PPBUH] is the best one with reason and opinion”. narrated by Ibn Assaker. No other human has reached what the Prophet [PPBUH] has, of his incomparable knowledge of the holly books and the history of nations.

Sayydi Ali [AHHF] said “We used to seek the protection of the Prophet [PPBUH] wherever it becomes too dangerous and the pupils become red”

Anas [AAH] said “Between all of the human beings, the Prophet [PPBUH] had the greatest manners”. He also said “I have served the Prophet [PPBUH] for ten years, and during those years he [PPBUH] has never complained nor said to anything I did, why did you do it? Or said to anything I did not do, why did not you do it?”

Imam Muslim narrated from Wathilata ibn al-Asqaa that he said “I have heard the Prophet [PPBUH] said (Out of Ismail’s offspring, Allah has chosen Kinanah. And out of Kinanah, Allah has chosen Quraish. And out of Quraish, Allah has chosen Bani Hashem. And out of Bani Hashem, Allah has chosen me”.

Imam Ahmed said in his book “The Prophet [PPBUH] ascended the pulpit and said (Who am I?) they said “you are the Messenger of Allah”. He [PPBUH] said (I am Mohammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdel-Muttalib. Allah created the creation and made me in the best of his creation. And He, Almighty, divided it into two divisions and He, Almighty, made me in the best division. And He, Almighty, created the tribes and He made me in the best tribe, and He made them houses and made me in the best of their houses. So I am your best house your best soul)”

Aisha [AAH] narrated that “Gabriel said “I went from east to west in this world and did not find a better man than Mohammad [PPBUH], nor a better house than the house of Bani Hashim”

So the care and auspices of Allah for the Prophet [PPBUH] was older than the very beginning of the world. His special choice, gifts and grace for the beloved [PPBUH] are glorious and tremendous from his Lord who made him distinguished over all prophets, messengers, and humans, and made him the best of all creations.

Imam Bousiri said in his poem al-Bourda:

The extreme limit of the knowledge about him is that is human                    

                                                             and the best of all Allah's creations

Every miracle set by the noble prophets                                                          

                                                  has been connected from his light to them

Gracious is the creation of a prophet adorned with his manners                    

                 He is embraced with beauty and characterized by cheerfulness

As a blossom in luxury, as a moon in honor,                                                 

                                            as a sea in generosity, and the time in mettles

Sayydi Hassan ibn Thabit [AAH] said:

You have been created free of any flaw          

           As if you were created according to your will

As the Prophet [PPBUH] had the gifts from the Lord, Almighty, he granted his gifts and graces to his kinfolks and to the righteous saints.

Imam Fakhreddin said:

O’ shelter of the truth and truthfulness                   

         O’ one who has a beginning above the ends

Imam Fakhreddin also said "the Chosen has gifted us and the granting is complete". As for his gifts and grants [PPBUH], it is as long as we can talk about it. Talking about will come latter ISA. Prayers and Peace be upon sayyduna Mohammad and all his household, kinfolks, and companions.
