Sayydi Ishaq and Ya’qoub [PBUT]

Allah, Almighty, said in His Honorable Book [We had granted him Ishaq and Ya’qoub, We made the prophethood and the Book in his progeny, and We gave him his recompense in the worldly life, and he is verily from the righteous ones in the hereafter] al-Ankabout 29:27.

When Allah, Almighty, willed to take the soul of sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH], He, the Almighty, sent out to him the angel of death in the form of an old sheikh. Sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] used to feed the people. When he [PBUH] saw the old sheikh, he sent to him a donkey to ride. When the sheikh approached sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH], he offered him food. The sheikh was taking a bite wanting to enter it in his mouth, but he would enter it in his eye then his ear and finally in his mouth. Sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] had asked his Lord not to take his soul unless he asked Him to die. When he saw this sheikh doing that, he asked him “O, Sheikh why are you doing this?” The sheikh said “O, Ibrahim ... it is the age!”. Sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] asked him “How old are you?” The sheikh said that he was two years more than the age of sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH]. Sayydi Ibrahim [PBUH] said “Then it is only two years between me and being like that. O, Allah, will You take my soul now!” So the sheikh got up and took his soul.

Abo Dharr [AAH] narrated from sayydi the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] that He [PPBUH] said (Allah revealed down to Ibrahim ten sheets). Abo-Dharr [AAH] said “O, Messenger of Allah! What were the sheets of Ibrahim about?” He [PPBUH] said (All of them were proverbs. It was "O, Oh masterful, afflicted and conceited king, I did not send you out to collect the worldly life parts to one another, but I sent you to respond to the prayer of wronged for me, as I do not reject it, even if it came from a disbeliever". There were proverbs in these sheets like “The rational one, unless his mind is overwhelmed, should have some hours; an hour to intimately pray Allah, an hour to think about Allah’s making, an hour to settle the account with himself and an hour to retire for his lawful needs of food and drink. The rational one should not be traveling except for three things: getting ready for the day of his death, seeking something for his livelihood, and some lawful delight. The rational one should be aware of his safety, interested in his affairs, and holder to his tongue. Whoever considered his speech as a part of his deeds, his speech would be less except in what concerns him”).

[We bestowed upon him Ishaq and Ya’qoub as a granted grandson and We made each of them righteous]. It was narrated that the age difference between sayydi Isma’il and sayydi Ishaq [PBUT] was fourteen years. When sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] grew up, He got married to a woman from Hauran, some said her name was “Refqua bent Bitwayil, according to another narration “Rabqah bent Tabweel”. She became pregnant from him with two boys at the same time. They were “al-Eys and Ya’qoub”. When the moment of birth came, sayydi Ya’qoub [PBUH] wanted to go out before al-Eys, but al-Eys said “By Allah, If you go out before me, I will intercept in my mother’s abdomen and kill her”. So, sayydi Ya’qoub [PBUH] waited and came out after his brother al-Eys who was named like this because of his disobedience and his going out before his brother, as sayydi Ya’qoub [PBUH] was supposed to go out first. Al-Eys is derived from the word Esyaan which means: disobedience. Sayydi Ya’qoub was named like that because of he came out after al-Eys. Al-Eys was the most beloved to his father as he was the firstborn and sayydi Ya’qoub was the most beloved to his mother as he was the youngest. When sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] grew old, He became blind, He [PBUH] said to al-Eys who used to work in hunting “O, son feed me the meet of a hunt and come to me to pray for you the prayer that my father prayed for me”. Al-Eys was a hairy man, but his brother was hairless. When their mother heared that, she said to sayydi Ya’qoub [PBUH] “O, son, slaughter a sheep, grill it, wear its fur and bring it to your father. So Ya’qoub [PBUH] slaughtered a sheep, grilled it, wore its fur and brought it to his father saying “O, father, eat”. Sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] said “who are you?” He said “I am your son”. Then sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] touched him and said “The touching is the touch of al-Eys, but the smell is the smell of Ya’qoub”. He ate and prayed for Him that Allah will make the Prophets and kings in his progeny. Sayydi Ya’qoub [PBUH] left his father. Al-Eys came after him and said to his father “I brought you the hunt you asked for”. Sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] knew then that he was al-Eys and said to him “O, son, your brother preceded you”. al-Eys swore then to kill Ya’qoub [PBUH], but sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] said to him “O, my son, there is a prayer left for you”. Sayydi Ishaq [PBUH] prayed for him that his progeny will be like the count of the sand and pebbles, and no one owns them except themselves. Bani al-Asfar were from his progeny.

The heart of al-Eys had something against his brother. So, his mother was worried about Ya’qoub [PBUH] and said to him “Go to your uncle’s house in Najran and leave Kan’an to your brother, as I am worried about you from him”. Ya’qoub [PBUH] left out of for fear from his brother. He used to walk at night (which means in Arabic: Yasri, as a verb) and hid during the day. So, He was named “Isra’il”. So, Ya’qoub [PBUH] left them at the end of that day. When it was evening while he was in the road at some place, he slept in. He took a stone and put it under his head and slept. He [PBUH] saw in a vision during his sleep an erected Me’raj from heaven to earth, where angels were ascending and descending. Also the Lord talked to him and said {I will bless upon you and increase your progeny and will give you this land for you and for your successors after you}. When he [PBUH] woke up from his sleep, he was rejoiced of what he had seen in his vision and vowed to Allah that if he [PBUH] returned sound to his family, He will build a temple at this place for worshiping Allah, Almighty, and that he will give back one tenth of all what Allah provides him for Allah's sake. Then he got to that stone and paint it to identify it. This place was named after that “Bait-Eyl” which means “The House of Allah”. It is the place of Jerusalem now, which was built by sayydi Ya’qoub after that.

It was said that when Ya’qoub [PBUH] came to his uncle in Herran, he was having two daughters, the oldest was “Leya” and the youngest is “Raheel” who was the best and most beautiful of them. So, He asked her father to marry her, but their father married him to the oldest one “Leya”, as he would not marry the youngest until the oldest was married. He [PBUH] was married to her on condition that he will graze the sheep of her father for seven years. sayydi Ya’qoub [PBUH] got married to her and she gave birth to six of his sons, they were: “Rabil (the oldest of his sons), Sham’oun, Lawi, Yahodha, Zabalon and Lash-har or Yash-har. She also gave birth to a girl and named her “Dinar”. Then he [PBUH] married her youngest sister “Raheel” provided that he will graze her father’s sheep for another seven years. Raheel gave birth to Yosuf [PBUH] and Benyamin. He also got four more sons from two selves. They were: “Dan, Naftali, Gad and Asher”. Thus His sons became twelve men, they were the grandsons who were mentioned in the Almighty's saying [Say we believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Ibrahim, Isma’il, Ishaq, Ya’qoub and the grandsons …] al-Baqarah 2:136.
