Amer of Yemen
One of the
good tidings of the birth of the Prophet
[PPBUH] was that Allah spread the breeze of mercy
about which He said [Surely, the mercy of
Allah is nigh unto the doers of good]
al-A'raf
7:56 and [And
We have not sent you, except as a mercy to the worlds]
al-Anbya' 21:107. The Beloved
[PPBUH] said (I surely
am
a gift of mercy)
narrated by al-Darmy in his Sunnan. When the clouds of mercy were spread over all countries, the
Persians received them. The first one among them to receive such a
mercy was sayydi Salman al-Farsi,
and he is their master. The
Romans also received them, and the first one to receive such a mercy
It was also said that the first one in Yemen was Amer of Yemen who received the breezes of mercy, so he was among the first to love the Master of the worlds [PPBUH] for both the advanced and yet to come people. Al-Imam ibn Hajar Al-Haithami narrated his story: Amer had an idol and a girl who was sick with colic and leprosy and so she was disabled and could not stand up. He used to put his idol in front of his girl and say to it "This is my daughter and she is ill, so cure her, and if you have a healing, heal her from her illness and make her well". He kept asking the idol for several years and his request was never fulfilled. When the breeze of care, guidance, and gifts started to blow, he said to his wife "How long should we worship such a deaf, mute idol? which never said a word? I don't think we are entertaining the right religion". She replied "Search a way for us so that we may find a clue to the truth! As the East and the West must have One Creator God". Then, while they was on the roof of their house, they saw a light which prevailed in the horizon and brightened the universe with light and shining. Then, Allah gave them insight after their long darkness, so they woke up from their heedlessness and were able to see angels lining around the Holy Masjid, the mountains kneeling, the Earth still, the trees swaying and happiness completed. They also heard a voice calling "The guiding Prophet is born". They also saw the idol with their sight and found him to be relapsed, humiliated, and conversed. Amer asked his wife "what happened?" She replied "look at the idol!" They heard it saying "The great news has been revealed and the one who is honor and pride for the universe is born. He is the expected prophet, to whom the trees and the rocks talk and to whom the moon splits. He is the master of Rabi'a and Modar'.
She continued "I asked: Whom he worships? and I was told: The Guardian, The Absolute. I asked: Who are you? and I was told: I am an angel who is honored by his divine beauty. I said: Can't you see my pain?! He replied: Beg Allah with him! as Allah said 'I put in him my secret and proof. I will fulfill the request of whoever begs me with him. I will let him intercept in the Day of Judgement to whoever disobeys Me'. I stretched my hands and prayed wholeheartedly to Allah, then I passed my hands over my face and body and I got up as healthy as you see". Amer said to his wife "This newborn has a secret and a proof. We have seen wonders of his signs. I will travel everywhere for his love".
I swear these are the conditions of the lovers. These are the attributes of the sincere lovers whom Imam Fakhreddin described in: [Allah has created His servants with a wisdom Which made the wonders of his creatures as classes] 61/2 [Some of His creatures are believers by nature They are dedicated to His Oneness by His Mercy] 61/3 [They are a league, disturbed by a glance, and away, from the beds, their group is repelled] 61/4
