Houd
[PBUH]
He is Houd
ibn Abdullah ibn Aous
ibn Eram ibn Sam
ibn Noah
[PBUH]. He
is the first prophit after saydona Noah [PBUH], he was sent to a
tribe named 'Aad attributed to their father 'Aad
ibn Aous ibn Eram
ibn Sam ibn
Noah [PBUH]. They lived in
al-Ahqaf
which was a sandy mountain in Yemen between
Amman and Hadaramout
near the salty sea. They had huge bodies. Moqatel said:
"the man
of them was 12 cubit [a
cubit is about 1/2 meter] tall". Al-Kalby
said: "the shortest one
of them was 60 cubits and the tallest was
100 cubits". Allah endowed them
with a long life,
so that a 400 years
would pass with no death between them.
They
were arrogant and they worshiped idols
instead of Allah.
When they got far with
their tyranny, Allah sent His prophet
Houd
[PBUH]
to them. Gebril [PBUH] came to him saying
"Allah sends you to
Aad's people. So go warn them
and tell them that Allah
says: [I gave
you a chance for a long time, and gave
you the strength that no one
before you had.
I made you kings
on golden thornes. I made
you live the longest
lives]. So go Houd to
them and ask them to worship Allah alone and to leave
their idols".
Sayyduna
Houd went to them while
they were gathered celebrating their feast
with their kings on their golden thorns.
He said to them: "[Oh,
my
people! Worship Allah!
you have no other God but Him, you
are nothing
but forgers]
Houd 11:50. So
leave worshipping the idols,
instead of Allah, which had
drowned
people before you". When their the king,
who was called al-Galigan,
saw Houd, he
said to him: "Oh Houd,
do you think, with all our
many people, severity of strength, and our terrible
power, you can beat us
with your words. Do not you know that,
every
night and day, we have a new thousand born babies".
Yet
sayyduna
Houd
kept
asking them to worship Allah for a long time, while
they would not listen to him.
So Allah
made their wives barren, no one of their wives became pregnant.
They complained to their king;
al-Galigan saying:
"Houd made our wives barren, and we
are afraid that he
might be telling the truth".
Then Allah revealed to Houd to tell his
people to believe in Allah or Allah will send
them a Aqim wind
[very strong one which does not have any good thing within it].
When they heard that
from him, they stoned him.
Yet he kept
asking
them while they were stoning him, for a long
time. Houd said to Allah: "Oh
my God you know that I
delivered your message to the people of 'Aad
but they insisted on their disbelief and far astray". Then Allah stopped
their rain for seven years, till
their lands became barren, their animals died,
and they lost all
provision and food.
So half of them died.
At that time they
used to, in case of drought, send some of them to the Holy
House to pray there,
and the rain would have fallen
within the month.
So they chose the best seventy men among them and
sent them to Maccah.
When they went there, they
cruised around the Holly House;s place praying and asking for rains, Allah
sent them 3 clouds white,
red, and dark one.
They heard someone
say:
choose one of them.
Their Boss chose the dark one thinking that
it was full of water. So Allah drove that cloud to their
houses when they saw it they were cheering up
thinking that it was going to rain. But it was a torture punishment
upon them. Allah ordered the angel of wind to send the barren wind
from under the ground blowing
over them. So the people
of Aad ran away to the desert
astray. When the
barren storm blew, it uprooted the trees and
destroyed the houses over their
heads. When the strong storm
went on increasing, They
put on their war kits and said:
We would defend
the storm
with our strength and huge bodies.
But the storm took
seven men of their strongest
and most huge ones and threw them up 20
cubits high, then hit them dead to the ground.
After that Allah sent them burning sand
with fire for 40 days.
Allah kept their lives in their bodies to
elongate their suffering. Their moaning
could still be heard under the sand by the
believers, when they pass
by them.
It
is narrated that when the barren wind below out
of the earth, sayyduna Houd and his
believer companions
never left the place of their tribe, yet they
were not harmed. They sat with
the disbelievers side by side,
however the barren wind was
like a cool breathe for the
believers and as a
burning thunder for the disbelievers.
Sayyduna
Houd and those who
believed with him were the only survivors.
Allah The
Almighty said in Qur'an:
[and to 'Aad We sent
their brother Houd who said:
"Oh,
my
people! Worship Allah!
you have no other God but Him, you
are nothing
but forgers"]
Houd
11:50-51.
Allah also
said: [and
remember the brothers of 'Aad when he warned
his people in al-Ahqaf, and surely there have passed away warners
before him and after him, saying "worship none but Allah, truly I
fear for you the tournament of a mighty day
¤ They said "have you come to turn us away from our gods, then bring us
what
you threaten us with if you are of the
truthful ones ¤ He said: "the knowledge is
only with Allah, I convey unto you that wherewith I have been sent,
but I see you are a
people
who are ignorant
¤
then when they
saw a dense cloud coming toward their valley they said "this is a cloud bringing us rain"
Nay it is what you asked to be
hastened; a wind wherein a
painful torture ¤ destroying
everything by the command of its
Lord, so by the morning nothing could be
seen except their dwellings,
thus do We recompense the
the guilty people
¤ and indeed
We have firmly
established them with that wherewith We have not established you, and
We
had endowed them hearing, sights, and hearts
but neither their hearing, nor their sight, nor their hearts
availed them nothing, since they used to deny the signs of
Allah, and they were encompassed by that what they used to
mock at]
al-Ahqaf
46:21-26.
Imam Fakhreddin said:
[Look at the people of 'Aad mocked their guide,
they
added multiples to their calumny]
(61/15)
[If
you want to know more about that,
and about its
judgment
you may ask
al-Ahqaf]
(61/16)
[Those whose hearts are hardened
from our Dhkir
they denied our blessings
oppressively]
(61/17)
Allah said: [Haven't you seen what Allah had done with 'Aad
¤
Iram with the lofty pillars]
al-Fajr 89:6-7.
Now
we know what Allah did with the people of'Aad, but what is
Iram with
the lofty pillars?
ISA we will tell you this story in the next
issue, may Allah help us all to do all the good.
