The honoring that a believer gets at his death

Al-Bara’ ibn Azib [AAH] narrated that the Prophet [PPBUH] said: (When the believer who prefers the hereafter to the worldly life dies, angels, with white faces like the Sun, come with shrouds and scents from the Paradise. They sit near him, while the angel of death sits to his head and says: “You, Reassured self, come out to the remission and acceptance of Allah!”. His soul, then, comes out smoothly, although people do not see this. So the angle of death takes it out, but they would not leave it in his hands for even a blink of an eye. Rather they hurry up and put this soul in the shrouds and scents. A very beautiful musk scent, like the most beautiful cent on earth, comes out of it. They elevated with it to the heaven, passing by a crowd of angels who ask about such a good soul. They reply and call him with the best name people used to call such a believer in the worldly life.  They keep elevating with it up to the seventh heaven. Allah says:Write his book in the high rank and get him back to the earth!”. His soul is returned to his body and two angels come to him, as the following conversation begins:

Angels: “Who is your god and what is your religion?”

The believer “Allah is my god and Islam is my religion”.

Angels: “Who is the man sent to you?”.

The believer: “the Messenger of Allah”.

Angels: “How did you know?”

The believer: “I read the Book of Allah and believed it”.

Then, a call is heard from the heaven, saying: “my servant said the truth. Get him a place from  the Paradise, dress him from the dress of the Paradise and open a door for him to the Paradise”. Then, he smells the scent of the Paradise and his grave is enlarged to the extent of his sight.

A well-dressed and beautifully-scented person comes to him, saying:Cheer up! Today, you will receive all the good things you have been promised”.  The believer asks: “Who are you? Your face reveals goodness”.  He says: “I am your good deeds”.  The believer says:(O, Allah, please, bring on the Day of Judgment, bring on the Day of Judgment, in order for me to get back to my people and money”)As if he wants to show them what he got.

Ibn Abi al-Dunia said: “when the believer is dying and seeing what Allah has prepared for him, he loves to die and tries to vomit himself out. At that time, he loves meeting Allah and Allah loves meeting him. When the disbeliever is dying and seeing what Allah has prepared for him, he hates to die and tries to swallow himself back. At that time he hates meeting Allah and Allah hates meeting him”.

Jafar ibn Mohamed said: “I heard the Prophet saying, while he was looking at the angel of death at the head of a man from al-Ansar, (O, the angel of death, be gentle to my companion, as he is a believer).  The angel of death replied ‘Don’t worry and be cheerful! I am gentle with all believers’.

Ka’b narrated that prophet Ibrahim [PBUH] asked the angel of death to show him how he looks when he captures a believer's soul.  The angel of death showed him a beautiful appearance with lights and glory. Prophet Ibrahim said: “If the believer never sees a an honor or cheering in his death, but such a beautiful appearance, then it would be enough for him”.

Al-Dahhak said: “when the angel of death takes the soul of the believer, he takes it up to the heaven, then he will be followed by the close chosen people of Allah. The he continues up until he reaches the seventh heaven then the farthest Lote-tree. Then they say: "O, our Lord! This is your slave so. While Allah knows it better. A sealed deed is brought to him saying that he is saved from the torture. That is Allah's saying: [Nay! But the record of the virtuous is surely in Illiyyin ¤ And what should make you know what Illiyyin is? ¤ It is a Book written comprehensively ¤ The chosen ones of God will witness it] al-Mutaffifin 83: 18-21.

Abi-Said al-Khudry narrated that the Prophet [PPBUH] said: (If the believer, who is eager for the hereafter and deserts the worldly life, is dying, angels, with faces like the Sun, come down from the heaven, carrying shrouds and scents from the Paradise, and they wher he could see them. When his soul comes out, every angel in heaven and on earth prays on him)

Abu-Huraira narrated that the Prophet [PPBUH] said: (When the believer dies, the angels of mercy come to him, carrying a white piece of silk.  His soul comes out with a beautiful scent like musk. They carry his soul to the heaven and name him with his best names, until they come to the door of the heaven. Angels ask: “What is this sent that came from the earth?” In every heaven, angels ask about such a good soul. When the angels carrying his soul reach the believers' souls, they will be in their happiest conditions. They will welcome him and ask him about their people that he just left. The angels will say: "leave him to take a rest, as he was in the distress of the worldly life")

Abu Huraira also, narrated that the Prophet [PPBUH] said (When the believer dies, angels come to him carrying a piece of silk with musk, ambergris, and basil. They take out his soul smoothly and say: ‘you, reassured self, come out, pleased and pleased with, to the mercy and honor of Allah’. When his soul come out, it is put on the musk and the basil and rapped in the silk. Then it taken to illiyyin [the high rank])

In the interpretation of [And by those who glide along swiftly] an-Naze'at 79:3, Ibn Abbas said “When the souls of the believers see the the angel of death saying to them: "you, reassured self, come out to a essence and basil. Come out to a pleased Lord". The believers’ souls swim, like the diver in the water, to the paradise. [By those that race forward and greatly excel others] an-Naze'at 79:4, means walk to the honor of Allah.

Obeid-Allah ibn Amr said: “When the believer dies, Allah sends him two angels with a piece of cloth and a perfume from the Paradise. They say to him “You, reassured self, come out come out to a essence and basil. Come out to a pleased Lord. What good deeds you have done!”. His soul comes out with the best musk one can ever smell.  The angels in all corners of heaven say: “Glory be to Allah! Today, a good soul came from the earth”.  All doors are opened for this soul and all angels pray for him. They walk with him until he reaches his Lord. Then angels kneel and say “Allah, this is the soul of your servant (they mention his name) and you know him the best”. Allah replies [Tell him to prostrate!].  Allah fetches Mikail and orders him to put such a soul among the believers till the day of Judgment. Mikail then widens his grave seventy by seventy, enlightens it, and opens the door of the Paradise for him to see his place day and night”.

Al-Hassan said: “When the believer is dying, five hundred angels come to take his soul. They take his soul and rise to the sky where they meet the souls of the previously dead believers. The dead believers would want to ask the believer’s soul, but the angels ask them to leave the believer’s soul to take rest, as he has just left a great distress. Then they ask him about everything even someone ask about his brother and his friend, he would say: He is the same as you left him”.

Abu Musa al-Ashary said “The soul of the believer comes out with a more beautiful scent than musk. The Angels assigned to take him rise with him to the heaven where the other angels meet with them before they reach heaven and ask them: Who is that you have with you? They tell them his name and his best deeds. The other angels reply “Allah greets you and the soul with you, angels”.  Then, the doors of the heaven are opened and angels enter from the door that his deeds used to come up from. His face illuminates and he goes to the Lord with his face like the Sun.

Al-Dahhak said [And a shank encompass another shank] al-Qiyamah 75: 30, means that people prepare his body while angels prepare his soul.

Abu Hurira said: “The believer does not die, until he receives a good tiding. He shouts “Hurry up to the Most Merciful”. His voice is heard by everything that walks except by human or jin.  When he is put to casket, he says “You are too slow”. When he is put in his grave, he sees his place in the Paradise and what Allah has prepared for him.  His grave is filled with essence and basil. He says “O my Lord, Let me be early!”. He is told “You have brothers and sisters who have not come yet! Sleep peacefully”.

Ibn Joraih narrated that the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said to sayyida Aisha (When the angels say to the dead believer: “would you like to get back to the worldly life?”. He replies “to the home of troubles and distress. Take me to Allah).  Al-Hassan ibn Ali said: “The soul oft the believer comes out in a sweet basil”, then he recited [Now if he be of those who have attained closeness to Allah ¤ Then for him is essence and basil of happiness and a Garden of a Bliss] al-Waqi'ah 56: 88-89. Qatada said about hte verse [essence and basil of happiness] that the believer meetsessence and basil of happiness” after his death.

Abu Bakr ibn Ebeid said: “When the angel of death is told to take a believer’s soul, he is brought a basil from the Paradise.  He is ordered to take his soul in it”.  Abi-Umran al-Jouny said: “we are informed that when a believer is dying, his soul is put in a basil from the Paradise”. Mujahid said: “The believer’s soul is taken in a piece of silk from the Paradise”. Abi-al-Alia said:No one of the people closer to Allah would die unless he is brought a branch from basil of the Paradise which he smells first and then dies”.

Salman narrated that the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] said: (The first good news the believer receives in his grave is to be told: ‘rejoice in Allah’s satisfaction and the Paradise, you came to the best place. Allah forgives those who follow you to your grave. Allah will will approve whoever witness for you, and fulfill the prayer of whoever prays to you”.  Abi-Masaud said “When Allah wants to take the soul of a believer, He inspires to the angel of death to send the believer his greetings”, then the angle of death coming to take his soul would tell him: "Allah greets you with peace"

Muhamed al-Qarzy said “when a believer is going to die, the angel of death comes to him, says to him: "O saint of Allah, He gives his Salam", then recites [Those whom angels take to die while they are pure, they say to them: Peace be upon you] an-Nahl 16: 32. Mujahid said that the believer is informed of his son’s goodness in order to cheer him.  Al-Dahak interpreted [For them are glad tidings in the present life and also in the Hereafter] Yunus 10: 64, as the believer knows where his place is before his death. Mujahid said that [As for those who say ‘our Lord is Allah‘ and then remained steadfast, the angels descend onto them, saying ‘Fear ye not, nor grieve; and rejoice in the Garden that you were promised] Fussilat 41: 30, happens during death. He said that the angels tell the believer not to be afraid from death or the Hereafter and not to worry about their family members, as Allah will be responsible for them, so he dies peacefully. Zayd ibn Aslam also said: When the believer is dying, he would be told not to be afraid of what is coming to you, so his fear goes away. He would also be told not to grieve the worldly life or it people and rejoice the paradise, so his grieve goes away. Then he would die peacefully.

When al-Hassan was asked about the meaning of [And thou, O reassured self ¤ Return to thy Lord well pleased with Him and He well pleased with thee] al-Fajr 89:27-28, he said that when the believer’s soul is to be captured, he will be reassured with Allah and Allah is reassured with him.

Al-Bayhaqi said in Bagdadian Chiefdom: “al-Hassan, the preacher, said: “I saw, in some books, that Allah has written, in light, in the hand of the angel of death “In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful”. Then He tells him to to expand his hand to the scholar, in the time of his death, to show him the writing. When the scholar sees the writing, his soul flies to him in a blink of an eye.  Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet [] said: (When Allah orders the angel of death to take the soul of a Muslim sinner, who deserved Hell, He also tells him to give his soul the glad tidings of the Paradise but after being punished in the Hell for as much as his sins. As Allah Almighty is the Most Merciful)
