Sd. Om-Kulthoum [AAH]

The Star of Islam

Her Birth [AAH]:

Om-Kulthoum was born in Mecca before the Message of the Prophet [PPBUH]. She was raised on the virtues and the high moral standards. Her father is the Truthful, Honest, the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] and her mother is the pure Khadija, the mother of believers [AAH] the best woman and the holder of the high rank and the great virtue. She was born after Sd. Roqaiya, and embraced Islam with her mother Khadija and her sisters. This is Sd. Om-Kulthoum whom is called by some preachers as: the star of Islam.

Her Islam [AAH]:

Om-Kulthoum [AAH] embraced Islam with the people of the house of the Prophet [PPBUH] with her mother Khadija [AAH] and all her sisters.

Her Marriage [AAH]:

When Om-Kulthoum [AAH] and her sister Roqaiya [AAH] were ready for marriage, Abo-Talib engaged them to the sons of his bother, Abdel-Ozza [Abo-Lahab]: Otba and Otiba. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] accepted because of how he respected Abo-Talib and because they were his cousins. Om-Kulthoum was engaged to Otiba.

Her Divorce [AAH]:

As soon as the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] received the Message of his Lord, Almighty, and started calling for the true religion, Quraish started its war against him [PPBUH]. The masters of Quraish gathered and said: You have saved Muhammad the worries, so give him back his daughters to make him busy with them.

The masters of Quraish went to the three husbands of the daughters of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], and told them one by one: leave your wife, and we would marry you whoever woman of Quraish you choose. Aboel-Ass [AAH], the husband of Zaynab [AAH], refused. But the sons of Abo-Lahab accepted immediately. Abo-Lahab had said to his sons: My head is forbidden from yours if you do not divorce the daughters of Muhammad. Otiba did not stop at that, but he also hurt the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] and did not care for his relation to him. So the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] prayed against him (O, Allah, empower one of Your dogs on him). So a lion attacked him while he was in a trade and ate his head from among all people, and Allah answered the prayer of His Prophet [PPBUH].

Her Jihad [AAH]:

After she was divorced from Otiba, Sd. Om-Kulthoum [AAH] lived with her parents. Then her sister Sd. Roqaiya got married and emigrated to Habasha. Sd. Om-Kulthoum stayed with her youngest sister Fatima. So she [AAH] lived inside the first battle of persecution. Then Hamza ibn Abdel-Muttalib and Omar ibn al-Khattab [AAT] embraced Islam, so the minds of Quraish went off and they boycotted Bany Hashim and cornered them the mountain path of Abo-Talib. Muslims lived with extreme hunger, and Om-Kulthoum [AAH] was patient, seeking the acceptance of Allah, and looking after her mother Sd. Khadija [AAH] who were exhausted with those events and who felt that her end was close. Then the great woman of Jihad Khadija [AAH] passed away. Her two daughters Om-Kulthoum and Fatima stood patient with her sad hurt husband, their father [PPBUH], who tried to comfort them.

The polytheists of Quraish went far in hurting the Prophet [PPBUH] and one day they intercepted him and one of the scamps dispersed dirt over his honorable head. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] entered his home and Om-Kulthoum came crying to wash the dirt off him. He [PPBUH] said to her (do not cry my daughter; Allah is protecting your father).

Then the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] made the Hijra to Medina and left his two daughters Om-Kulthoum and Fatima with his wife Sd. Sawda [AAH]. Then as soon as the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] reached Medina, Zayd ibn Haritha came to accompany Om-Kulthoum and Fatima and the family of Abo-Bakr to the home of Hijra. So she became one of the emigrants to Allah and His Messenger.

Her marriage to Osman [AAT]:

Om-Kulthoum witnessed the return of her victorious father from Badr, then the passing away of her sister Roqaiya on the victory day. One day the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] saw his companion Osman distressed, so he said to him (why do I see you depressed)? He said: O, Messenger of Allah, was anyone tried my trail: the daughter of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] that was with me died, my back is broke, and the marriage relation between me and you is cut. As he was talking to him, the Prophet [PPBUH] said (this is Gabriel [PBUH] is commanding me from Allah, Almighty, to marry you her sister, Om-Kulthoum, on the same dowry as her, and on the living). So he married her to him and she became the second light for Osman - the one with the two lights - [AAH]. She stayed with him for six years, and she did not bear any children.

In a narration of at-Tabarany (I did not marry Om-Kulthoum to Osman except with a revelation from Heaven).

Om-Ayyash –the servant of the Prophet [PPBUH]- to Sd. Om-Kulthoum to call her to meet the Prophet [PPBUH] to ask her about the marriage from Osman; so she bowed her head and kept silent out of shyness from the Prophet [PPBUH]. then he knew that she has the same opinion as his own. The Prophet [PPBUH] said to Osman (I will marry you to Om-Kulthoum the sister of Roqaiya, and if they were ten I would have married them to you). So Osman got with this honor the title of - the one with the two lights - because he married the two daughters of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH]. as both of them are true lights. Om-Kulthoum stayed in the house of Osman as his wife for six years, with the vision of her sister around her.

Being patient with the fate of Allah is one of the most important stands of Om-Kulthoum; as she was patient for not having sons from her husband Osman ibn Affan [AAH] after living with him for six years, so she had beautiful patience.

Her Passing Away [AAH]:

The sickness attacked the daughter of the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], and she stayed in bed for a while, then she passed away in Shaban of the year 9 of Hijra. Her father was hurt and greatly sad. The Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] ordered Om-Atyya to wash her odd times. He gave her, his loincloth to enshroud her with it. When he wanted to lay her down in her grave, he said (no one descends into her grave if he touched his family tonight. Is there anyone of you who did not touch his family tonight?) [means slept with his wife] Abo-Talha said: Me, O, Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah said (you descend). Al-Bukhary- al-Fath.

After the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH] buried her, he said to the man with two lights [Osman], who was sad for the passing of his beloved wife and the cut of his relation to the Messenger of Allah [PPBUH], (if we had a third one we would have married her to you, O, Osman).

May Allah have mercy on Om-Kulthoum [AAH], the best of the wives and the one with Jihad. And may He gather us with her in paradise, ISA, and give us all, the love of the people of the house of the Prophet [PPBUH].
